I have been on a lookout for a classic trench and scored this lovely piece which bares a resemblance to the Heritage trench coat from the British luxury brand, Burberry. This got me to thinking if Burberry is really worth the price or are you paying for the legacy of the brand?

First, I do not own a Burberry trench however wearers of the iconic coats feel that shelling out $1600-1800 is absolutely justified! They swear by t he intri cate details of the garment including the hand stitching on the collar, the impeccable cut, the triple proof weather resistant cotton gabardine fabric, and the signature Burberry check lining which is carefully engineered and cut so the lines of the design remain unbroken. The company also stands behind any and all repairs from replacing the buffalo horn buttons to refurbishing their coats at no charge for the life of the coat (25+ years) or as long as you own it.

My dupe is a Calvin Klein double breasted trench in XL which cost $99.00. (BTW, itâs also my BLCW item for March. Catch up with this series here). The coat is imported but most likely produced without the intricate attention to details. My CK trench comes in a similar color, same silhouette, with a similar notched collar and rain guard on the back. The coat is made of polyester and is water resistant, l ined, st urdy, and well constructed for its $100 price point. Overall, I am quite happy with the coat; itâs an awesome transitional piece for this windy Spring weather, and I've worn it practically every day since purchasing a month ago.
I love all the detailing that goes into the Burberry trench and the fact their coats are timeless. Truth be told, their 1970âs Heritage trench could be worn today, but the question for me is do I want to wear the same coat in 20, or even 10 years from now? The answer is probably not since I get bored with clothes and my taste/style is constantly changing.
